The Uzbek Consulate is open 1000-1300 Mon,Tue,Wed,Fri. The fee payable depends on the length of your stay in Uzbekistan. The fees quoted below are in US Dollars, but payable in Sterling at the current exchange rate. The scale of fees is:

A faxed letter from your Uzbek hosts is acceptable. However, the consulate will take 7 days to issue your visa and may ask for further documentation. It's best for the inviting party to go through the Uzbek Foreign Ministry. The visa will then be issued immediately.
If you book accommodation, either the Uzbek travel agent can invite you through the Ministry as above, or your British travel agent can apply with a faxed confirmation from the Uzbek side. Waiting periods as above.
